Dental Braces

Emergency Dentist Sacramento takes  a look at Dental Braces.

By applying pressure the braces move teeth into desired locations, usually over a period of months or years depending on the severity of the condition.  They are constructed out of various types of metal, usually steel or titanium, and placed on the teeth by an orthodontist.  Once the braces are on they require monthly checkups for tightening and alignment.

Any type of gum disease can make the process of getting braces more difficult, the mouth has to be in fairly good health before any orthodontist will apply the braces.  Deep cleanings can be performed along with regular dental care that will improve the health of the mouth and make it possible for a patient to get braces.

Orthodontists go to school for an extra two to three years to obtain the skills necessary for putting braces in someone’s mouth.  There are many different kinds of braces that are targeted to different age and severity levels, and there are different options available to reduce cost for patients that are on a budget.

As soon as the braces are removed patients will see that their teeth are healthier and straighter.  For those that have severe dental problems such as under/over bites the results are even more amazing, they will finally be able to eat food and talk.  The first step to getting braces is going in and getting some X rays and an exam.

Crowns – An Overview

Crowns are one of the most popular dental procedures used to save teeth from decay.

An Overview:

The process involves encompassing the entire tooth in a material that will prevent decay, reduce sensitivity, and still keep the tooth alive.

They are usually used when a cavity has gotten so large that a filling would be inadequate and the cavity is threatening to kill the tooth.

There are several different materials that can be used to cover the tooth, and then bonded to the tooth using special cement.

Depending on where the tooth is located and the cosmetic appeal patients may choose a material that blends with the natural teeth they already have.

A dentist will take an impression of the decaying tooth, as well as those alongside it, and send the mold off to a lab where that tooth impression will be used to sculpt a cover.

The desired material has to be chosen by this point because that is what the cover is made out of.  While the crown is being made the dentist will give the patient a temporary crown that is cemented on, which is meant to last up to a few weeks while the other tooth is being prepared.

Once the crown is ready it can be placed on the tooth in a single visit, usually without the need of any pain medications.

As soon as the crown is placed on the tooth and the cement has dried the patient can use that tooth like they would any other.

Crowns are good for up to fifteen years.  Crowns are a good choice for people of all ages, even young children with dental problems.

They can be redone fairly easily and are much more cost effective when compared to root canals and other procedures.

What Is Gingivitis

Emergency Dentist Sacramento knows good brushing habits are by far the best thing that you can do for your mouth.

Many people forget that good hygiene and oral care is related to the health of the entire mouth, not just the teeth.

Brushing gets the bacteria out of your mouth, off of your enamel and tongue.  Plaque and tartar is the cause of cavities, bad breath, and gingivitis.  One third of all adult tooth loss is attributed to some form of gum disease. The build up of plaque can cause enamel to weaken in areas which will then form cavities, and these can occur between teeth as well.

Using a good floss that contains fluoride will keep the spaces between teeth clean, as well as condition gums to keep them strong.  Some people notice a small amount of blood when they brush their gums, or floss.  But this isn’t anything to be worried about, as time goes on the gums will strengthen and they won’t bleed so much.

Most bad breath germs come from the tongue.  There are all sorts of bacteria that grow on the tongue, even fungus!  Brushing the tongue twice a day will keep these bacteria to a minimum.  Also, you can use mouth wash which will kill the bacteria for a longer period of time.  Overall, the key to having a healthy mouth is to take care of it at least twice a day.

It may be somewhat of a burden at times but when you go to the dentist and see good results it will all be worth it. Keeping your teeth clean and healthy is important, but do you know exactly how bacteria combines with your saliva to form tartar which can lead to all sorts of nasty dental problems like Gingivitis and tooth loss?

Yeah, me neither but here is a really cool video on what can happen and what you can do to prevent tooth decay and other dental catastrophes!

Pretty interesting, huh? I’m the last person on earth to give advise about seeing the dentist but I can say I wish I knew then what I know now and would have seen a dentist regularly for cleanings… and so should you!

The Word Is Spreading

This site, Emergency Dentist Sacramento, is getting a small handful of visits each day now and I sure hope people are taking my advise and setting an appointment with Dr Wong to take care of their emergency dental needs.

However, you do not need to be in pain or discomfort to go see them.  In fact, it is better to visit a dentist BEFORE you actually really need one.

I’m in the service business by trade and people tend to call me when things are no longer working and they are in great discomfort.  If they had called me before things broke down and had me do some preventative maintenance, they would not find themselves in these desperate situations.  Makes sense, right?

Same is true for your teeth I suppose.  You can brush and floss and do all the right things but you still need to visit a dentist each year to get a professional cleaning or to handle small problems before they become big ones.

A recent study stated that tooth and gum health was linked to disease in the body.  I’m not sure how true that all is because I do not trust the medical establishement and know that these studies can be influenced by those with the most to gain.

But, what I do know is that a healthy smile can affect both your professional and personal life in a positive way and you only have one set of grown up teeth so you need to take care of them.

Anyway, if you need an emergency dentist in Sacramento, or you just want to make an appointment to get your teeth cleaned, Dr Wong  is your man.  You have my word that he and his staff will take super great care of your and your family at a price you can be comfortable with!
